The data provided here are based on sentencing guidelines worksheets submitted to the Maryland State Commission on Criminal Sentencing Policy (MSCCSP) for sentences in Maryland’s circuit courts for January 1, 1999 through June 30, 2023. The data are limited to guidelines-eligible sentencing events and are not inclusive of all criminal sentencing events. The accuracy and completeness of the sentencing data are dependent on the information entered in each sentencing guidelines worksheet.

To obtain meaningful information from the data download file requires some data manipulation and analysis on the part of the user. Prior to working with the data, users are encouraged to review the file information, as well as the supporting materials provided on the data page of the MSCCSP website, including the description of the source and scope of the data and the data codebook.

By clicking on Generate Dataset, the user agrees that no individual will be identified by name in any publication, report, or presentation utilizing the sentencing guidelines data. Further, any publication, report, or presentation utilizing the sentencing guidelines data should clearly indicate that the findings do not necessarily reflect the views of the MSCCSP.
